Certainly, this work of Alix is very beautiful, emotional, the young woman is like a representative image of Vietnamese women in the early 20th century. But the unexpectedly high price for such a small-sized work is unpredictable before the auction takes place.
Some of the collectors who had accessed to Alix Aymé’s works for a long time at auctions would not have thought that Alix’s prices could rise so quickly.
Alix Aymé had many works. Because her whole life, she devoted herself entirely to painting, in which most of them were with Vietnamese themes. She made a great contribution to building the image of Vietnamese women in the early years of the century. Besides, she has contributed to researching and developing lacquer paintings to a new position for Vietnamese painting. The paintings with portraits of Vietnamese women of all ages deeply depict the beauty and distinctive characteristics of Vietnamese women.
Along with other French artists such as Victor Tardieu, Joseph Inguimberty, Évariste Joncherè, Alix Aymé is the only female artist at the same time at the peak of French artists’ works on Vietnamese themes. Surely her works will reach new prices, because the number of people who love her paintings will be more and more.
