In June 2022, Viet Art View team produced a video of the silk painting ‘Maiden picking lotus’ by painter Nguyễn Thị Chín.
NGUYỄN THỊ CHÍN (1937), Maiden picking lotus, 1958, Silk, 67×50 cm
At that time, information about painter Nguyễn Thị Chín was scant. Viet Art View only found a little material in the book ‘Urban Fine Arts of Saigon Gia Định, 1900-1975’ by artist Uyên Huy; the book ‘Saigon life story of the street’, volume V by researcher Phạm Công Luận. Add a few rare images from the blog ‘Gia Định painting school’. We only know that painter Nguyễn Thị Chín was born in 1937, but don’t know if she is living and where she is living.
Then, fortunately, Viet Art View was shared information by Ms Nguyễn Minh Anh, a young art researcher. According to Minh Anh, painter Nguyễn Thị Chín is living in Louisiana, USA.

After the video ‘Maiden picking lotus’ was posted on Viet Art View’s media platforms, it attracted the attention of art lovers. Because in addition to the artistic element, the beauty from shaping, style, the theme of the work, also has a historical element, because ‘Maiden picking lotus’ used to belong to the art collection of Ms Trần Lệ Chi, sister of madame Trần Lệ Xuân.

After that, Viet Art View suddenly received information from Ms. Huyền (currently residing in the US) about her acquaintance with painter Nguyễn Thị Chín. Ms Chín is currently residing in Missouri and is still healthy, although a little confused due to her age. Ms Huyền showed her the video ‘Maiden picking lotus’. She was touched, happy, and told many old stories to Ms Huyền. Ms Huyền also keeps some beautiful paintings by Ms Chín. She also sent a portrait (recently taken) of Ms Chín to Viet Art View…

Finally, the story has a happy ending… Thanks to the connection of an art lover, the painter can look at the painting she created, after more than 60 years…
Viet Art View would like to thank Ms Huyền for this precious information…
