At the beginning of July, 2022, a silkwork titled “Summer sunshine” with the name of artist Le Van De was sold at auction for about 43k EUR, plus taxes, about 53k EUR.
LE VAN DE (1906-1966). Summer sunshine. 1941. Silk. Private Collection, Hanoi
So is this the famous “Summer sunshine” in the legend of the famous artist Le Van De? CERTAINLY NOT.
Before the day of the auction, Viet Art View was busy working to the deadline for the set-up review videos, so there was no time to post; today, leisurely write a little bit about the silkwork for you art lovers to understand better.
The work was originally owned by a musician. The family of aritst Le Van De has a close relationship with the musician, so they transferred the ownership of “Summer sunshine” to the musician to keep it. After that, the musician transferred it to an art lover who was very secretive among collectors in Hanoi. The work is still kept at the collector’s residence.
That’s why the copied works are all wrong in color and all have the wrong year of creation. The color of the baby’s shirt must be brick red (the typical color of Le Van De). The mother’s bracelet is black. The delicate and skillful brush strokes describe a beautiful, holy, and very attractive face.
Not to mention the people who coppied it are not technical enough. Maybe it’s because of students copy for the lesson? Or maybe it was copied by the shops to sell to customers as souvenirs? Then the “amateurs” found it beautiful to copy and made it. In general, there are many reasons why there are countless copies of the silkwork wandering in the market today…
Now we invite art lovers to look at the outstanding painting that entered the legend of Le Van De.
