The European tour in the early thirties left a profound mark on the works of Lê Phổ, who was imbued with international Gothic art through to 20th century modernism throughout his life.
He chose to show in this work the private moments of a mother caressing her sleeping child, with the style of Gothic and Renaissance painters such as Maurice Denis.
