ARTWORK: LỄ HỘI CHÙA HƯƠNG (FESTIVAL OF HUONG PAGODA) — TRAN HUU CHAT (1933-2018)

As a person of moving, observe and experience a lot, Tran Huu Chat particularly fond of cultural themes ethnic minority or festivals in different regions. Just via his painting’s title, people can imagine a fanciful world with various shapes and colors of the spiritual life lay from the North to the South of our country, from “Champa Festival”, “Buffalo Festival of Highlands” to “Festival of Water Puppetry Art, Nothern Delta”, etc, specifically the scene “Lễ hội chùa Hương” (Festival of Huong Pagoda) as we are seeing.

As same as other masters, Tran Huu Chat enter lacquer wood carved from lacquer. He soon formed a style of expression, seemingly “universal” in appearance, especially in brilliant colors, but inside, it actually has many “minor–difference”, by subtle graphic strokes, sometimes reaching the level of grain, in very prime locations, creating a vibration, a humming must say to be magical.
