During the auction on March 14, 2022 by Aguttes (France), the silk work “Babies playing in the garden”, 1986, 46,2×38,2 cm, by Le Thi Luu, the starting price was 30-50K EUR, was sold at 411,920K EUR; equivalent to more than 10 billion VND. A very successful price.
The work depicts an image of two very lovely and cute babies sitting in the garden with red apples (probably freshly picked). At the bottom left hand side is written the words “Send two children bring lot of love to Nghiep – Le Thi Luu 1986”. The affectionate and considerate dedication makes viewers think of her warm, compassionate soul.
According to information of Aguttes, ‘This work is in Madame K’s Art Collection. Arriving in France at a very young age, Madame K and her husband, who had settled in Paris, spent time to communicate with the artists of Fine Arts College of Indochina who live in France. If her husband enjoyed playing cards and chatting with Le Pho or Vu Cao Dam, she was also very close to Le Thi Luu and Paulette Le Pho. The couple collected works of those artist friends whom they adored and respected so much, and had a lot of good times together.’
