This theme was created by Lê Phổ on paper, this is quite strange. Because with this style, he often created on silk. Based on the layout in order of the inscription, seal, and signature, this painting may have been created in 1937 or 1935-1940 because they are similar to the seal and signature in the painting “Lady and the parrot” (1937). The bright-colored scarf is a style that was once favored by Vietnamese women. Paintings can carry the historical value of an entire period. Lê Phổ is one of the most important painters in the history of Indochina art, most Vietnamese art collections wish to have his works. He immortalized the image of Vietnamese women of his time, depicting characters with a dreamy, aristocratic beauty. The woman in the painting dressed simply, the green background further enhances her soft black hair.
