After graduating from Indochina Fine Arts College, from 1931 to 1937, Mai Trung Thứ was appointed to teach painting at National School of Huế. The gentle and charming scene of the Hương River; curved roofs of temples and mausoleums in Huế; the motifs and patterns of gold and vermilion, splendid in the architecture and interior of Huế palace… and especially the image of gentle Huế girls, were engraved deeply in his mind… All those memories are depicted on many of his paintings.
