‘SPRINT’ – A PAINTING ABOUT HORSE RACING OF PAINTER VO LANG (1921-2005)

For the first time, Viet Art View introduces a painting by painter Vo Lang…

Painter Vo Lang was born in 1921 in Hue, the second of 14 sons in the family. Before studying fine art he spent 7 years studying Greek and Roman art.

He had participated in exhibitions in Hong Kong (1948-1949), Italy (1952), France (since 1961), the United States (since 1965)…

Basically, Vo Lang’s composition system can be roughly divided into three stages:

– The first period when he was still in Vietnam

In 1942, he started studying at the Indochina Fine Arts College, class 16 with Tran Phuc Duyen, Quang Phong, Dinh Minh, Phan Thong. This class had not been finished for 5 years before the August Revolution was successful, then the nationwide resistance broke out, so it had to stop midway.

As early as 1942, when he was in his first year at the Indochina Fine Arts College, he created the painting ‘Farmers in the rice field’ according to his own observation of the surrounding worldview; explored new painting styles; not much realism depicted in it. Later, he also made many paintings on Vietnamese themes

– Second period to 1949 when he lived in Hong Kong

Around 1945-1946, he went to Hong Kong, where he continued to study and work for three years. Here, he painted harbors, sailing ships, and bays from the perspective of very large spaces.

– The last period from 1949, until his death in 2005, lived in France

In 1949, he moved to Paris. In France he was a film producer, cinematic art designer – especially cartoons, book illustrations.

We found on the website: www.societe.com it was written: “About the company MR JEAN VOLANG, individual entrepreneur, registered under SIREN 431207091, has been in business for 43 years (as of 2022 – writer). Headquartered in PARIS (75015), specializing in the performing arts business. registration date INSEE 01/01/1979.

Around 1965, at the Gallery of World Art, Newton Center in Massachusetts, USA, he exhibited paintings with vibrant colors. It was a process of composing according to his senses, his own personal exploration of the world.

“The colorful works are perfected in his own way, expressing what he observes, from Cap Jaques on the Pacific Ocean to a seaside farm in Brittany. He used colors brilliantly – red, orange, blue and yellow, contrasting with a vivid white impasto, equal to the brightness of Utrillo’s white. He was always in control of form and composition.” (According to the author Patricia Boyd Wilson wrote about Vo Lang’s exhibition)

His paintings were also exhibited regularly at the Gallerie Drouant, Paris.
