Lot 140
Lương Xuân Nhị (1914-2006)
Artwork: Lilies
Medium: Oil
Dimensions: 64×49 cm
This work is from the collection of artist Luong Xuan Nhi’s family, giving his children the right of inheritance. Currently it is in the collection of Mr. N.M, Hanoi.
Blooming lilies placed in a brown ceramic vase, underneath is a square cloth used for decoration. Perhaps it’s a piece of brocade fabric (of people live in north mountains, where Vietnamese artists often choose when they travel to paint) with meticulously handcrafted details, vibrant colors.
Motifs of flowers, books, and fabrics (decorative cloth) have been favored and expressed by generations of artists. Luong Xuan Nhi is no exception. “Lilies” shows his characteristic style. The colors of earthy yellow and green are conventionally divided by subtle and delicate color changes. Viewers could have the feeling of being immersed in a clear, sunny space, hearing somewhere the melodious, soft sound of music with the vase of lilies gently exuding a cool fragrance.
