In this small work on silk, Vũ Cao Đàm explored one of his favorite animal subjects, the rooster. A powerful symbol of Vietnamese culture, the rooster is ubiquitous in rural life, but also used in fights, and for many Vietnamese is a symbol of strength. Vũ Cao Đàm produced, throughout his career, works on silk and canvas depicting roosters, sometimes in fights, sometimes with humans, in poetic images. The present work, as an animal study, places the entire emphasis on the two roosters, with their thick, moving strokes standing out against a neutral background.
